BIRD : Charles Kaisin's work at Westland shopping

The artist Charles Kaisin highlights the past of the Westland Shopping Center and its famous aviary through a monumental work "BIRD".

For decades, the Westland aviary was well known to the inhabitants of Anderlecht. Some residents who owned birds used to bring them there during their vacations. Others donated their feathered companions, knowing that they would be pampered there. This aviary quickly became a famous and iconic feature of Westland.

During its current renovation, the aviary was removed. The memory of this past that amazed so many children has been reinterpreted by the Belgian artist designer Charles Kaisin. His work consists of a huge bird taking flight, made of thousands of origami birds. The renovation, bathed in luminosity by the enlargement of the skylights, offers a space conducive to the staging of works revitalizing the image of the neighborhood and of Westland, a meeting place for the inhabitants of Anderlecht and the surrounding area.
